Democrats Pickens Plan Bluff
By Rizzuto

Tue Aug 19, 2008 - We’ve been linked to the T. Boone Pickens energy plan for a few weeks now if you look to the right side of the website. Now, key democrats, in a desperate attempt to attach their names to a solution, have begun praising Picken’s plan and have even chosen him to headline the National Energy Summit in Las Vegas.

Harry Reid and Dick Durbin have spoken in support of Picken’s plan and even Barack Obama has managed to meet with Pickens last week and sing his praises saying, “T. Boone Pickens is right; we need a much bolder and much bigger set of solutions.”

The Pickens plan, despite the Democrats seeming endorsement, runs completely contrary to their message up to this point. Pickens has called for an increase in drilling and an exploitation of all of America’s domestic resources. When in front of a Homeland Security And Governmental Affairs hearing in July, Pickens said:
I see everything American as good…Offshore, OCS drilling, ANWR drilling, yes, all of it. I want to see all of it. I want to get off of foreign oil. Yes, all of that.
Pickens has even spoken out against Democrats playing the blame game with speculators and big oil saying, “This doesn't have anything to do with Exxon or Chevron or some speculator running up the price.

With no solutions of their own, this is a cynical Democratic bluff, pure and simple. Too beholden to the environmentalists are they to truly publicly endorse a plan written by an old oil man like Pickens. Senate Republicans should write the Pickens plan into legislation and get Democrats on the record, either supporting or opposing it.
